How does an antenna work?

Antennas are one of the marvelous tools that enable our modern life. Most of us have at least one with us constantly, in our phone or tablet. We rely on them pretty much everywhere – at home, in the office, at the airport or hotel and in a bar or restaurant.

Antennas help bring to us our TV and other video, as well as radio and other audio, information and entertainment, whether delivered by satellite, cellular network, over-the-air broadcast or streamed via wireless Internet.

Yep, we rely heavily on antennas.

So have you ever asked: How does an antenna work anyway? If you have, then you will want to watch this 4-minute video. We ask a guy who designs and tests antennas, Don with weBoost, how antennas work. In the video he explains how an antenna works and why.

I thought I understood pretty well, at least in general terms, how an antenna works, although some of the details were fuzzy. Don’s explanation filled in the gaps for me (before watching the video I didn’t get the concept of current flow).

    I am an advanced class amateur ham w4ddy, operating on 160 meter working with inside coax dipole inside antenna which works on a relay to automatically switch from receive when transmit. I need an amp to increase the receive signal for the inside coax built diopole. Do you sell an amp for 1.880 MHz or a plan I could use to build one myself ?
