This is a starter button for an older vehicle. More correctly it is a manual solenoid for a starter.

The button to the right of the gas pedal is a starter button.

That Is a starter button. You still had a key, but that only provided 6 volts of power, you then had to press on that button or lever in order to engage the stater motor.

This is the Floor board of a late 40’s to early 50’s Chevy Pickup truck. You have the clutch, moving to the right the brake pedal, then the gas pedal, and then the starter button. At age 10, I got caught driving a 51 model. My Grandfather and His brother were letting me drive. I was in front ALONE and they were following. I am big now, 6’4″ TALL and 230 pounds now, 61Years young, but back then in 1963, I would hold on to the steering wheel and reach for the pedals. My butt would be hanging mid-air because I could not sit and do the clutch all the way. It was great growing up on a farm in South Carolina.
