The Best Cell Phone Signal Boosters of 2018

Nicholas Jones | April 13, 2018

weBoost Home 4G cell signal booster – the top pick of bloggers and editors in our 2018 cell booster roundup

For the second straight year we’re posting our “meta-list” of the Best Cell Phone Signal Boosters of the year.

Just like we did last year, for 2018 we looked at all the “Top Cell Phone Signal Boosters of 2018” lists posted on various web sites and analyzed their rankings.

Cell boosters that made multiple “Best of 2018” lists are shown here in our own “Best Cell Phone Signal Boosters of 2018” roundup.

The cell signal booster product category has increased significantly in market recognition over the past 18 months or so, and we claim a little bit of credit for that.

This means that there are lot more “Best Cell Phone Boosters” lists posted this year than there were last year when we did our first list; a lot more data to review.

But just like our previous list, we figure if multiple bloggers and editors are picking a booster model among the best on the market, then chances are pretty good that it is actually one of the best.

Methodology: How we chose the Best Cell Phone Signal Boosters of 2018

Our list includes only residential/small office boosters and vehicles boosters. Commercial cell boosters are beyond our scope here.

I mentioned there are more “Best Boosters” lists to evaluate in 2018, but not all lists are created equal. While we didn’t evaluate list posters’ cell-booster-judging criteria, we did reject some of the lists for reasons explained below.

Our analysis included a few specialized lists – for example, a list for home cell boosters only, or boosters only for RVs.

We required a “Best Boosters” list be posted in November or December of 2017, or any time up to now in 2018, to be considered in our evaluation. Older lists were rejected. Of course to be considered in our analysis, all boosters had to have been available for purchase in the U.S. and Canada.

And here are some other lists we did NOT include in our evaluation:

  • one-carrier lists. For example, a list of boosters only for the Verizon network
  • lists posted by booster manufacturers, for obvious reasons.
  • lists including only one manufacturer’s products. For example, an all-weBoost list posted on a third-party site was rejected.

We’re evaluating the Best Cell Phone Boosters, so we did NOT include:

  • lists that included cellular-antenna-only configurations, as well as boosters
  • mixed lists that included Wifi boosters and/or TV boosters, along with cell boosters

Also, lists that included mostly discontinued or older models of cell boosters were rejected from our analysis.

And finally, if a web site had simply updated an earlier post’s title tag to a 2018 date while not changing the content of their Best Booster list from a previous year, we did not include that list in our analysis.

Our “Best Cell Phone Signal Boosters of 2018” Judges

So after all that, we evaluated 10 lists of the “Best Boosters of 2018” from the web publishers listed below. You may recognize some as repeat contributors from our last year’s list.

These sites are all completely independent of weBoost and Wilson Electronics. Until I did the web search in preparation for writing this post, I didn’t know which boosters were included on these lists.

Our list of “Best Cell Signal Boosters of 2018”

Best Overall Booster – weBoost Home 4G

2. Cisco AT&T Microcell

3. weBoost Connect 4G

4. weBoost Connect 4G-X

5. (tie) Surecall Fusion4Home

Mingcoll AT&T 700

7. 12 tied

No booster made all 10 lists. Two booster models made five of the 10 lists, and our Best Overall Booster, the weBoost Home 4G was ranked first or Best Overall on four of those five lists.

Also named on five lists was the #2 booster, the Cisco AT&T Microcell, which made last year’s list. It’s worth noting the microcell is a slightly different animal than the other boosters on our list because it requires a broadband Internet connection, while all the others work exclusively with available ambient cell signal.

Four boosters made three of our 10 analyzed lists. Named on three lists and ranked #1 on two of the three, is last year’s winner and our third-place booster, the weBoost Connect 4G.

Also making three lists, with a “Best Model” from one of those, is the fourth-ranked booster the weBoost Connect 4G-X.

Tying for fifth place are the SureCall Fusion4Home and the Mingcoll AT&T 700. Both were named on three lists.

A dozen boosters made two of the “Best” lists, and tied for seventh in our rankings:

  • weBoost Drive 4G-S (replaced by newer model)
  • weBoost Drive 3G-S
  • weBoost Drive 4G-X
  • SureCall Flare
  • Phonelex Wireless GSM
  • Phonelex 4G LTE
  • SolidRF MobileForce 4G
  • SolidRF Soho Dual
  • HiBoost Travel 4G
  • zBoost ZB645SL
  • zBoost ZB575-A TRIO SOHO

Final Notes

The 10 “Best Cell Boosters of 2018” lists we analyzed include cell signal boosters from 12 total manufacturers, one less than last year. weBoost led manufacturers with 14 cell booster models ranked on the 10 analyzed lists for 2018.
